Meeting to be held at Singha Durbar; condolence motion for late NC lawmaker Baldev Bohara on agenda.Post Report
The 19th session of the National Assembly begins on Sunday.
As the Parliament building in New Baneshwar was vandalised and set ablaze during the Gen Z uprising, the session will be held at the Federal Parliament Secretariat in Singha Durbar.
The meeting is scheduled for 11am. Ahead of the session, National Assembly chair Narayan Prasad Dahal convened a meeting of the Rules Committee on Friday to finalise preparations.
At the opening meeting, Dahal will read out the President’s letter convening the session. The agenda also includes a condolence motion for the late Nepali Congress lawmaker Baldev Bohara.
Meanwhile, the Election Commission has stepped up preparations for the election of National Assembly members scheduled for January 25.
Although 19 seats in the upper house will fall vacant on March 4, voting will be held for only 17 seats, as one candidacy has gone unopposed and another member will be nominated by the President on the government’s recommendation.
With preparations underway for the House of Representatives election and new members set to be elected to the National Assembly, the session is being viewed as politically significant.
