World leaders congratulate Nepal on Constitution Day
Emphasise support for democracy, stability amid recent unrest.

Leaders and diplomats from several countries extended greetings to Nepal on the Constitution Day, highlighting support for democratic governance, stability, and development.
In a statement, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the United States supports the Nepali people’s aspirations for a transparent government that adheres to the country’s constitution.
“On behalf of the government of the United States of America, I congratulate the people of Nepal on September 19 as you celebrate Nepal’s Constitution Day. The United States supports the Nepali people’s aspirations for a transparent government that adheres to the country’s constitution, which is essential for achieving a democratic solution as you prepare for elections in the coming months,” said Rubio.
The statement said the US joins the people of Nepal in mourning the loss of life and extended condolences to the families of those killed and injured in recent protests.
“The people of Nepal deserve a hopeful future focused on advancing economic growth, strengthening regional security, and promoting prosperity for all,” read the statement.
The statement also highlighted the Millennium Challenge Corporation Compact, adding that it will support the expansion of Nepal’s transportation and energy infrastructure, create jobs, and drive long-term economic growth while strengthening the US-Nepal partnership and creating business opportunities for American companies.
Britain, through Ambassador Rob Fenn, conveyed greetings from King Charles to President Ramchandra Paudel.
“My wife and I send our heartfelt greetings to you and to the people of Nepal on your Constitution Day. We share your grief for the recent loss of life and the hardships faced by so many across Nepal,” reads the statement by the British King.
“The values enshrined in your constitution—peace, democracy, and inclusion—remain as vital as ever, and we hope they will continue to guide the nation towards a more secure and prosperous future as you look towards elections in 2026.”
Chinese Ambassador to Nepal Chen Song extended his congratulations to the government and people of Nepal on Constitution Day, wishing unity, peace and progress.”
Norway’s Ambassador-Designate Dagny Mjøs extended her best wishes on the occasion of the Constitution Day.
“We value our longstanding friendship and strong ties and remain committed to working together for an inclusive, just and peaceful development in Nepal,” read the post on X.
Finland’s Embassy in Nepal also extended greetings, saying, “On the 10th Anniversary of the Constitution, the Embassy of Finland conveys its warmest wishes to the people of Nepal. We value our longstanding partnership and remain committed to working together for a resilient, democratic, inclusive and forward-looking Nepal.”
The third day of the Nepali month of Ashoj, September 19 this year, is celebrated as Constitution Day. The day is also marked as the National Day. The Constitution of Nepal was promulgated through the Constituent Assembly in 2015.
