CIAA files corruption case against Sudurpaschim’s former chief minister Sodari
The anti-graft body charge-sheeted Dirgha Bahadur Sodari for allegedly amassing illegal wealth during his tenure.
Post Report
The Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) on Monday filed a corruption case against Dirgha Bahadur Sodari, former chief minister of Sudurpaschim Province, at the Special Court.
The anti-graft body charged Sodari with accusations of amassing property disproportionate to his known sources of income.
Sodari, who was elected to the Sudurpaschim Provincial Assembly from Kailali 4(1) representing the CPN (Unified Socialist), had served as chief minister from April to August 2024. He was appointed with the backing of the CPN-UML, the CPN (Maoist Centre), Nagarik Unmukti Party, and an independent lawmaker.
However, his tenure was short-lived. The UML withdrew its support on July 4, 2024, reducing his government to a minority. Sodari stepped down on August 2 the same year before facing a vote of confidence.
The CIAA has not disclosed the total value of the allegedly ill-gotten assets but maintained that the evidence warrants prosecution under the anti-corruption law.
