The Piplamod section of the Nagdhunga-Naubise road will remain closed from 10.30 am to 3 pm for 15 days starting Saturday, as road construction and improvement work resumes.
According to Keshav Prasad Ojha, chief of the eastern section of the Nagdhunga-Muglin road project, vehicular movement will be halted from 10:30 am to 3:00 pm daily until June 8 to allow for blacktopping of a 1.8-kilometre stretch. However, vehicles of emergency and essential services such as ambulances will be allowed to ply on the road.
Ojha said that the earlier phase of the project, which ran from May 5 to May 14, involved removing the old blacktop during night hours. However, due to heavy daytime traffic congestion, the construction team was unable to complete the resurfacing as planned.
“Initially, the idea was to break the road at night and reconstruct it during the day, but the traffic volume made that unmanageable,” Ojha said. “This time, we will hold vehicles at Khanikhola and begin gravel laying and base preparation. If weather permits, we aim to complete the blacktopping within the designated period.”
The project has urged motorists to use alternative routes during the closure hours. For small and medium-sized vehicles, the recommended detours are via the Sitapaila–Ramkot–Dharke road or the Samakhusi–Tokha–Chhahare–Trishuli (Bidur)–Galchhi route.
