Minister for Health and Population Pradip Paudel has said that Nepal must work continuously with the aim of reducing maternal and child mortality rates to zero.
Speaking at the inauguration of a new maternal and neonatal simulation lab at the Paropakar Maternity and Women’s Hospital’s Kupondole branch, Paudel highlighted the country’s progress in reducing such mortality rates and vowed that the upcoming national budget would give maternity care top priority.
“To ensure long-term effectiveness, this simulation lab must be maintained sustainably,” Paudel said, stressing the need to expand similar facilities to all provinces.
Built with the support of One Heart Worldwide, the new simulation lab will be used to enhance the clinical skills and knowledge of maternal and neonatal health service providers.
Secretary at the Ministry of Health, Hari Prasad Mainali, also called for special focus on the lab’s operation and impact. “Starting a lab is a significant achievement, but ensuring its continuous operation is even more important,” he said, noting challenges related to trained personnel.
Hospital Director Dr Sri Prasad Adhikari said the lab is expected to provide a practical learning space for medical professionals. “This facility will help in teaching and learning of essential medical skills, and in developing and refining advanced competencies,” he said.
