Deuba, Wang meeting focuses on connectivity projects

Nepal and China during a meeting between foreign ministers of the two countries have emphasised the progress of connectivity projects like the cross-border railway project, Tokha-Chhahare tunnel, highway and economic corridor projects, among others.
The issues were discussed during a meeting between Minister for Foreign Affairs Arzu Rana Deuba with Wang Yi, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, Director of the Office of the Central Commission for Foreign Affairs and Minister for Foreign Affairs of China in Chengdu Friday afternoon.
“During the talks, both sides also focused on issues relating to trade, connectivity, investment, tourism and people to people relations among others,” a press release issued by the Foreign Ministry of Nepal after the bilateral meeting said. “The foreign ministers emphasised on the progress of connectivity projects like the cross-border railway project, Tokha-Chhahare tunnel, highway and economic corridor projects, among others.”
Emphasising the importance of the exchanges of high-level visits on a regular basis, for further consolidation of bilateral relations, the two ministers had extensive discussions on the preparations of the upcoming high-level visit of the Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli to China, said the ministry.
Foreign Minister Deuba visited China on Thursday to lay ground for the prime minister’s visit, which is scheduled to start on December 2.
“Wang said the two sides have made joint efforts to promote cooperation on all fronts, make progress under the Belt and Road Initiative, and advance the building of the trans-Himalayan multi-dimensional connectivity network,” Chinese news agency Xinhua reported.
Wang said China is ready to work with Nepal to embrace new prospects for the development of China-Nepal relations by taking the opportunity of the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties next year, according to Xinhua.
According to the Foreign Ministry of Nepal, Minister Deuba reiterated that Nepal has always been upholding "One China Principle" and will not allow any activity against China in Nepali territory and that both sides reaffirmed their support for sovereignty, territorial integrity, and non-interference.
“The leaders expressed happiness over celebrating the year 2025 as 'Visit Nepal Year' for Chinese tourists on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of establishment of bilateral relations to further consolidate people to people connections, in addition to other events,” read the press release.
According to the ministry the two foreign ministers also underscored the need for concerted efforts from both sides to expedite the execution of ongoing projects as well as to implement the agreements and understandings reached between the two countries and leaders on several occasions.
Foreign Minister Deuba thanked the government of China for its continuous support and cooperation for the socio-economic development of Nepal.
In the meeting two ministers shared views on overall bilateral relations and matters of mutual interests and cooperation at bilateral, regional and global level, the release said.
Krishna Prasad Oli, the ambassador of Nepal to the People's Republic of China, Suresh Raut, Consul General of Nepal to Chengdu, and other officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Embassy of Nepal in Beijing and Consulate General of Nepal in Chengdu were present at the meeting. The Chinese side was composed of the senior officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China.
Foreign Minister Deuba will return to Kathmandu on Saturday.
