The Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Friday made the official announcement of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s upcoming visit to China.
According to the ministry, Oli will pay an official visit to China from December 2 to 5 at the invitation of Chinese Premier Li Qiang. During the visit, he will hold bilateral talks with Premier Li and exchange views on matters of mutual interest.
Oli is also scheduled to meet Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing and Zhao Leji, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress of China.
As part of the visit, the prime minister will deliver a keynote address at Peking University. He will also address the Nepal-China Business Forum, co-hosted by the Embassy of Nepal in Beijing, the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT), and the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI).
The prime minister’s entourage will include Arzu Rana Deuba, minister for Foreign Affairs; Bishnu Prasad Rimal, chief adviser to the prime minister; Yuba Raj Khatiwada, economic and development advisor; members of parliament; high-ranking government officials; representatives of the private sector; and media persons.
In preparation for Oli’s visit, Foreign Minister Rana Deuba left for China on Thursday at the invitation of her Chinese counterpart Wang Yi. This marks her first official visit to China since her appointment as minister in July.
During her visit, Rana will hold bilateral talks with Wang in Chengdu, Sichuan Province, and convey Nepal’s proposals for implementing projects under China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). She is expected to return to Nepal on Saturday.
The visit comes as the Oli-led coalition government prepares to navigate Nepal’s position on the BRI. Continuous negotiations between ruling coalition partners—the Nepali Congress and the CPN-UML—are underway to finalise Nepal’s stance on development cooperation with China. The BRI remains a key area of focus for Nepal’s engagement with its northern neighbour.
