NEA urges consumers to maximise electricity consumption during Tihar
Managing Director of the public utility Kulman Ghising assures of stable power supply, urging the public to celebrate Tihar without concern about outages.Post Report
The Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has urged the public to maximise electricity usage during the Tihar festival, assuring that there is sufficient power supply and no power cuts will occur.
Managing Director of the power utility Kulman Ghising said the country at present has adequate electricity production. He said the electricity supply is stable, barring any technical issues.
Despite recent floods and landslides causing significant damage to hydropower projects, including the Upper Tamakoshi Project, Ghising said the NEA can still meet the electricity demands during the festival.
He said that most hydropower projects rely on river flow, which may necessitate future electricity imports during the winter months. Currently, power generation has decreased from approximately 2,100 megawatts to around 1,900 megawatts daily.
Ghising reiterated that there would be no power cuts during Tihar unless technical problems arise, encouraging the public to enjoy the festivities.
Electricity demand is expected to surge as people illuminate their homes with lights during Tihar.
