Foreign Minister Arzu Rana Deuba has instructed the Nepali embassies in Lebanon and Israel to stay updated on the status of Nepalis living in these countries and provide necessary assistance.
In a virtual meeting with the Nepali ambassadors based in Lebanon and Israel on Sunday, Minister Rana discussed the latest developments in the region, particularly in Lebanon, where the situation has raised concerns among Nepalis. She urged the embassies to remain in contact with Nepali citizens and offer support as required.
“Efforts should be made to reach out to all Nepalis in these countries. If anyone requires immediate assistance to return to Nepal, coordinate with them. Additionally, preparations should be made in case an evacuation of Nepali citizens becomes necessary,” Minister Rana said.
She also directed the embassies to issue notices, assign contact persons, and establish helpdesks to provide necessary coordination and assistance to Nepalis in distress.
Sushil Lamsal, Nepal's ambassador to Egypt, briefed the meeting about the situation in Lebanon, stating that while there is no immediate problem for the estimated 1,200 Nepalis residing there, contact has only been made with three individuals, all of whom are safe in Beirut. He added that no Nepali has reported any issues so far, although their relatives in Nepal remain concerned.
Kumar Shrestha, Nepal’s acting ambassador to Israel, reported that the situation in Israel remains stable and that the approximately 4,500 Nepalis in the country are safe.
The meeting also included an update from Tapas Adhikari, Nepal’s ambassador to Pakistan, on the current situation in Iran.
