Government to provide Rs50,000 per family to construct temporary shelters

The government has decided to provide Rs50,000 per family to survivors rendered homeless by the Jajarkot earthquake to construct temporary shelters.
A disaster management committee meeting chaired by Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Narayan Kaji Shrestha on Friday decided to provide the amount to the affected families for the purchase of materials including corrugated zinc sheets for temporary shelters.
Finance Minister Prakash Sharan Mahat, Urban Development Minister Sita Gurung and heads of disaster management and security agencies also attended the meeting.
The deadly earthquake damaged around 8,000 houses—both public and private—besides killing at least 154 people in Jajarkot and Rukum West districts in western Nepal, according to officials. As per the initial estimate, around 3,000 houses have been fully damaged while an additional 5,000 suffered partial damages
A Cabinet meeting on Sunday had decided to provide free treatment to those injured in the earthquake across all hospitals and dole out Rs200,000 each to the family of those killed.
