Nepali Congress Joint General Secretary Mahendra Yadav was attacked in Bhrikutimandap on Wednesday afternoon.
Yadav was exiting the premises of the Reporters Club when he was attacked with a khukuri.
According to Superintendent of Police Kumud Dhungel, also spokesperson at the Kathmandu District Police Range, Congress leader Yadav, who sustained injuries to the back of his head, was rushed to Bir Hospital for treatment.
SP Dhungel said police have taken the assailant into control and the investigation into the matter is underway.
