Five AIGs transferred in the middle of probe into high profile corruption cases
A recent Cabinet meeting decided to change responsibilities of AIGs Shyam Gyawali, Deepk Thapa, Tek Prasad Rai, Sandeep Bhandari and Meera Chaudhary.Post Report
The government on Saturday transferred five Additional Inspector Generals (AIG). The decision was taken by a Cabinet meeting held a few days ago.
AIG Shyam Gyawali, chief of the Kathmandu Valley Police Office, has been transferred to Nepal Police Headquarters Operations Department.
AIG Deepak Thapa of the Administration Department will replace Gyawali at the Valley Police Office.
Similarly, AIG Tek Prasad Rai of the National Police Training Institute has been transferred to the Human Resource Department while the department’s AIG Sandeep Bhandari will take over Rai’s position.
Likewise, AIG Meera Chaudhary has been transferred to the administrative department. She was heading the Operations Department.
However, Central Investigation Bureau chief AIG Kiran Bajracharya, Provincial Coordinating Directorate AIG Sudeep Giri, and AIG Tek Bahadur Tamang of the Crime Investigation Department will continue in their current positions.
Leaders of the Nepali Congress were unhappy with the investigation into the recent Bhutanese refugee scam led by AIG Gyawali. Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba had also wanted to transfer Gyawali mainly after the police arrested former home minister Balkrishna Khand, one of the trusted lieutenants of Deuba, in connection with the fake refugee scam. Some other senior politicians, officials and middlemen have also been sent to jail for judicial custody in the same case.
Gyawali, along with Kathmandu Police Chief Special Superintendent of Police Dan Bahadur Karki and Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office Special Superintendent of Police Manoj KC, had carried out the investigation of the case.
The second phase of the investigation has also been instigated after more complaints were filed in connection with the crime.
Also, top politicians from various political parties are unhappy over renewed investigation in Lalita Niwas land grab scam, in which top officials including former prime minister and ministers have been accused of being involved in transferring the public land to the names of some individuals.
Likewise, some senior politicians including former Speaker Krishna Bahadur Mahara of the CPN (Maoist Centre) have been accused of being involved in smuggling of gold in huge quantities.
