Four candidates file nomination for Vice President
Ram Sahay Prasad Yadav and Pramila Yadav from the Janata Samajbadi Party and Mamata Jha of Janamat Party registered their nomination from the ruling alliance while CPN-UML fielded party vice-chair Astalaxmi Shakya.Post Report
A total of four candidates registered their nominations for the vice-presidential election at the Office of the Election Officer at New Baneshwar on Saturday as the deadline to file candidacy ended at 2 pm.
The Election Commission, which has scheduled the election of Vice President for March 17, had asked the aspirants to register their candidacies from 9 am to 2 pm Saturday.
A total of three candidates filed their candidacies from the ruling coalition after the alliance partners failed to agree on a common candidate for the post.
From the ruling alliance, Ram Sahay Prasad Yadav and Pramila Yadav from the Janata Samajbadi Party and Mamata Jha of the Janamat Party filed their candidacies for the post of Vice President.
Yadav was proposed by the party’s senior leader Ashok Kumar Rai, lawmaker Pradip Yadav, Kishan Shrestha of the CPN (Unified Socialist), Shakti Basnet of the CPN (Maoist Centre), and Nepali Congress’ parliamentary party leader in the National Assembly Ramesh Jung Rayamajhi.
The candidacy was seconded by Rekha Yadav, Ambika Kafle, Prakash Jwala, Khimlal Devkota, and Bhanubhakta Joshi.
Likewise, Pramila Yadav’s candidacy was proposed by Ranju Jha, Mrigendra Kumar Singh Yadav, Nawal Kishor Sah, Deepak Karki, Raj Kishor Yadav while it was seconded by Anita Devkota, Bimala Subedi, Sita Gurung, Jayanti Rai and Manish Suman.
Similarly, the candidacy by Mamata Jha was proposed by Abdul Khan, Anita Devi, Gangaram Chaudhary, Abiram Sharma, Rupa Kumari Yadav and seconded by Goma Lal Sapkota, Binita Kumari Singh, Basanta Kumar Kusahwa, Ram Prakash Chaudhary and Rani Kumai Tiwari.
The ruling alliance had earlier on Saturday decided to field three candidates for the vice-presidential election.
Failing to agree on a common candidate, the parties at a meeting of the alliance held at the prime minister’s residence decided to register the candidacies of the three candidates.
UML’s vice-chair Astalaxmi Shakya also filed her candidacy for the nation’s second-highest post earlier on Saturday.
The Election Commission has scheduled the vice-presidential election for March 17.
