Government announces public holiday to mark ‘People’s War Day’

The government has announced a public holiday on Monday to mark the occasion of People’s War Day.
A meeting of the Council of Ministers held on Sunday decided to give a public holiday across the country on Monday.
The armed war that started on February 13, 1996, concluded following a Comprehensive Peace Agreement on November 21, 2006.
CPN (Maoist Centre) which led the armed insurgency has been marking the People’s War Day on the first day of the Nepali month of Falgun every year.
The public holiday, this time, has been announced with the Maoist Centre leading the incumbent government.
Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal, a week ago, had said that the number of public holidays should be reduced.
Meanwhile, coalition partner Rastriya Prajatantra Party did not attend today’s cabinet meeting expressing displeasure over the announcement of a public holiday on Monday.
