Police detained an Indian national in possession of counterfeit currency from Jaleshwar in Mahottari district.
Raman Kumar, a 21-year-old resident of Sitamarhi in the Indian state of Bihar, was held with 11 fake Nepali banknotes in denominations of 1,000 from Maliwada Bazaar, said police.
The local people took the suspect under control after he attempted to purchase some goods from a shop by using a fake banknote. He was later handed over to the police for investigation.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Santosh Pokharel said an investigation is underway after the Mahottari District Court remanded the suspect into custody for 10 days.
