Ex-president Yadav pitches for political figure as new President
The remark by Nepal’s first president comes at a time when speculations are rife over a non-political figure for a new President.Post Report
At a time when speculations are rife over a non-political figure for the new President, Nepal’s first president Ram Baran Yadav on Saturday remarked that it would be better if a person with political experience and constitutional knowledge holds the top state position.
“President is a constitutional and political position. It will be better if a person with political experience and knowledge of the constitution takes charge of the position,” Yadav said while talking briefly to journalists after inaugurating a general assembly of the Federation of Nepali Journalists’ corporate province committee.
Talk of a non-political candidate for President suddenly arose after former Council of Ministers chairman Khilaraj Regmi met with Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba in Baluwatar on Wednesday.
There are also rumours that top party leaders including Prime Minister Deuba and CPN (Maoist Centre) Chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal are attempting to present former Chief Justice Kalyan Shrestha as the new presidential candidate.
Following the ‘controversial’ roles of former presidents Ram Baran Yadav and Bidya Devi Bhandari, politicians have begun to discuss potential non-political persons they could rely on to serve as the head of state.
