At least 43 dead in overnight landslides across country

Overnight landslides across the country following unseasonal rainfall have claimed at least 43 lives while eight people are still unaccounted for, authorities said on Wednesday.
In Panchthar district, 27 people lost their lives and three others went missing after Tuesday night’s landslides.
Twenty-one people died and two others are missing in Miklajung Rural Municipality of the district alone, a local government official said.
In Ilam, 12 people, including four members of the same family, died in separate landslides.
District administration office reported landslide-related deaths in Mai, Deumai, Phakphokthum, Suryodaya and Mangsebung.
Landslides triggered by heavy rains have also disrupted vehicular movement in several sections of the Ilam-Phidim and Phidim-Taplejung roads.
In western district of Humla, police reported four deaths after a landslide buried a home at Kharpunath Rural Municipality. Two others are missing.
A couple and their two sons aged five and three have been found dead at the incident site but two others, including a 11-year-old boy, remain missing, said DSP Heramba Sharma, the district police chief.
A spell of unseasonal rains over the past couple of days has wreaked destruction in different parts of the country.
At least 18 deaths and dozens of missing person incidents were reported on Tuesday.
Heavy rains have also caused flooding and displacement in many Tarai districts across the country.
