Indian authorities have obstructed the construction of roads at Bramadev in Bhimdutta Municipality-9, Kanchanpur, stating that the infrastructure was constructed by encroaching on the no-man’s-land.

Personnel from the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) directed the workers

to stop the construction works on Friday. The road is under construction from Bramadev to Tanakpur Barrage along the Nepal-India border.

“The SSB personnel came and asked us to stop the work while we were leveling the road by using a dozer.

They argued that no infrastructures could be built there as it was the no-man’s-land,” said Bhim Joshi, the contractor of the road project.

Chief District Officer Sushil Baidya, Super-intendent of Police Dinesh Acharya and official from the Armed Police Force reached the site on Friday and held talks with the SSB and the Sub-Divisional Magistrate of Champawat district in India.  

“We will raise the issue at the border security meeting that is scheduled for Wednesday. Preparation is on to invite a joint border survey team of both the countries at the meeting,” said Baidya. According to him, the Indian side wants the joint survey team to resolve the issue before

we carry on with the construction.

According to Ram Nath, ward chairman of Bhimdutta-9, “Indian authorities claim that the border pillar No 811 lies in Bramadev Bazaar, but it clearly lies in the middle of the Mahakali river. We are unable to construct roads on our own land.”
