The Nepali has been identified as 30-year-old Tapendra Lohar, of Khalsain in Sanfen Municipality, Surendra Devkar, secretary of Akhil Bharat Nepali Ekata Kendra, a group of Nepali community in Mumbai, told the Post.
Lohar, who had long been living in Mumbai with his parents, had returned to Mumbai from Nepal only two days before the incident. He was caught in the accident while he was on his way to his rented room.
The Maharastra State Government has announced an ex-gratia of Indian Rs500,000 for the family of the deceased.
“We have demanded the state government take action against those responsible for the bridge collapse, along with the compensation to the affected family,” said Devkar.
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation vigilance department has submitted its preliminary report of the bridge collapse. The report has blamed the structural consultants of negligence and recommended police action against them, according to Indian officials.
