The agitating students burnt the campus chief’s chair and vandalised a laptop, CC cameras and furniture at the campus. Following the vandalism, the students took out a protest rally in Mahendranagar, demanding the authorities scrap the decision of appointing 32 employees illegally.
The students affiliated with Nepal Students Union, All Nepal National Free Students Union, All Nepal National Independent Students Union (Revolutionary) and Netra Bikram Chand’s close student organisations protested against the campus’s move to appoint the employees.
“The campus has appointed the relatives of the senior officials without a due legal process. Our protest will continue until the appointment is revoked,” said a student leader.
The university has recently appointed 32 employees ranging from office assistant to associate professors. The students affiliated with the ruling Nepal Communist Party, Nepali Congress and Chand-led Communist Party of Nepal have been a staging relay hunger strike in front of the campus gate since Sunday.
However, campus chief Bupendra Bista said the university had appointed the teaching and non-teaching staff in contract as per the existing legal provisions. He claimed the students resorted to vandalism at the behest of other people.
