The Parliamentary Hearing Committee has started the process of hearing of the Supreme Court Justice Cholendra Shumsher Rana, who was recommended for the top job of the apex court.
The meeting of the PHC held at Singha Durbar on Sunday decided to receive complaints against Rana from Monday. “We have decided to receive complaints against Cholendra Shumsher Rana for 10 days beginning Monday,” said Amrita Thapa, a member of the PHC. The meeting of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli led Constitutional Council on Thursday had decided to recommended Rana as the Chief Justice of Supreme Court.
Chairperson of the PHC Laxman Lal Karna said the PHC would also discuss with those filing complaints against Rana and then invite him for the hearing.
As per the constitutional provision the nominee would be appointed by the President after the PHC endorses the name recommended.
Earlier, the PHC had rejected Deepak Raj Joshee with the two-third majority votes without giving proper reasons for the refusal, setting a trend that the PHC could also exercise its power and it was the final gatekeeper.
