Rescue teams find the bodies of people missing since the August 26 Bhotekoshi floods as search continues inside the tunnel for possible further victims.
Six bodies have been recovered from a tunnel at the Upper Trishuli-1 hydropower project in Rasuwa district during a search for people who went missing in the August 26 Bhotekoshi floods.
According to the Nepali Army, a joint rescue team comprising army personnel and representatives of the hydropower project found the bodies trapped inside the steel reinforcement mesh installed for concreting works in Audit 3 of the project’s tunnel.
The team used gas cutters and rotary rescue equipment to cut through the reinforcement and retrieve the bodies.
The Army said rescuers also spotted what appeared to be other bodies buried under mud inside the tunnel and that the search was continuing.
The Bhotekoshi floods swept through parts of Rasuwa and neighbouring districts on August 26, leaving hundreds dead and thousands missing. Rescue teams have continued searching rivers, debris and damaged infrastructure for those still unaccounted for.
As of Friday, 1,410 bodies had been recovered in the disaster, while 6145 people remained unaccounted for, according to the latest government figures.
