The ruling CPN-UML has said that the report issued by European Union (EU) Election Observation Mission (EOM) on 22 March along with its reference to the full report on observations of the Elections of the House of Representatives and Provincial Assemblies of Nepal as 'blatant violation of the political independence of Nepal' which is protected by the Charter of the UN and other international laws, including customary international laws.

Stating that Nepal’s independence to choose its political and constitutional system is its absolute right under the UN Charter, its various resolutions and declarations as well as other prevailing international laws, the party's foreign affairs department has, in a press statement issued here Monday, said that the EU EOM statement is not only unacceptable but also condemnable in accordance with the prevailing international laws.

The party has also expressed its firm support to the Nepal Government's stand to that regard and has urged it to think seriously to stop such incidents in future.

"This statement requires serious scrutiny of its legitimacy under prevailing international laws, Nepal’s foreign relations’ practices with other countries, and general diplomatic norms and principles", reads the statement released by the Department Secretary Yadav Chandra Sharma while referring to the Montevideo Convention on Rights and Duties of the States, 1933, Article 3 and 4 according to which Nepal is fully capable of determining or choosing its political, administrative, economic and legal and constitutional systems independently.
