Nepal-China border crossing at Rasuwagadhi entry point would be shut for 72 hours starting Thursday midnight, ahead of the first phase of federal parliamentary and provincial assembly elections slated for November 26.

According to Rasuwa Chief District Officer Chomendra Neupane, the order has been enforced in line with the mandatory requirement to seal the borders 72 hours ahead of the elections. He said the borders will remain shut from Thursday midnight to Sunday midnight (Nov 26).

Once the order comes into effect, the human and vehicular movement along the border area will come to a complete halt. CDO Neupane said that security has been strengthened in the district as ballot papers and boxes have already reached respective election centres. “Around 1500 security personnel from myadi police, Nepal Police, Nepal Army and National Investigation Department will be mobilised for the election security,” said Neupane.

Ramche declared prohibited zone

Rasuwa Administration Office has declared Ramche of Kalika Rural Municipality-1 a restricted zone after election programmes of left alliance and democratic alliance were set to coincide on Thursday.

CDO Neupane said that prohibitory order was enforced in Ramche foreseeing the possible confrontation among the cadres by exercising Section 6(3) of Local Administrative Act 2028.

District Security Committee meeting took the decision effective from Thursday noon till 10pm.
