The Nepali Congress (NC) has said that a left electoral alliance formed by the CPN-UML, the CPN (Maoist Centre) and the Naya Shakti Nepal has “unnecessarily pushed the country towards polarisation”.
A Central Working Committee (CWC) meeting of the party held at Baluwatar on Friday concluded that the sudden decision by its coalition partner, the Maoist Centre, to form an electoral alliance with the UML was “an unusual political development”.
“The Maoist Centre has made a sudden decision to forge an electoral alliance with the UML at a time when all legal preparations for the upcoming federal and provincial elections have been completed,” the official decision of the NC CWC reads.
The ruling party has also said that the Maoist Centre decision to forge an alliance with the main opposition violates a three-point agreement reached between the two parties at the time of government formation.
“Instead of supporting the constitution implementation process, promoting national unity and fostering trust and goodwill among communities, the UML is encouraging divisive mindsets and weakening democracy. The Maoist Centre’s decision to forge a left alliance with the UML has pushed the country towards polarisation,” the decision reads. The NC has said consensus, cooperation and reconciliation only could lead the country towards sustainable peace, political stability and prosperity.
