Govt to bar cargo, mini-trucks from plying on Ring Road

The Department of Transport and Metropolitan Traffic Police Division took the decision to this regard barring vehicles hauling cargo from plying that the Ring Road from 8m to 7pm.
According to the Transport Department, the ban will not be applicable to petroleum tankers, gas bullets, drinking water tankers among other vehicles providing essential goods.
MTPD Chief Sarbendra Khanal said that the decision was taken in view of increase in traffic congestion and accidents along the Ring Road. “We are confident that this regulation will work,” said Khanal, “We intend to decrease the number of road accidents with the implementation of this rule.”
However, Transport Management Department Spokesperson Tok Raj Pandey informed that the decision on the matter is yet to be made. “We will take the decision only after holding talks with transport entrepreneurs,” he said.
Meanwhile, various areas have been set up as parking space for cargo vehicles entering Kathmandu Valley from various entry points. Cargo trucks coming from Prithvi Highway can park their vehicles at Naubise, while parking spaces have been set up at Banepa for heavy vehicles entering from BP Highway and valley bound vehicles from Nuwakot can park at Jhor and Mudey.
