Solidarity for Dr KC Alliance has organised a relay hunger strike in Chitwan expressing support for Orthopaedic surgeon Dr Govinda KC who has been staging an indefinite hunger strike.
The relay hunger strike was initiated immediately after submitting a memorandum at District Administration Office on Thursday, demanding the government address the demands of Dr KC.
Dr KC has been staging hunger strike at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital in Kathmandu for the past 18 days seeking reforms in the country’s medical education and health sector.
A member of the campaign, Pawan Gautam, said that four people will sit for the hunger strike at a time and each shift will be of six hours.
Health workers, media persons, representatives of various parties, and civil society, among others, have participated in the relay hunger strike.
Meanwhile, according to Nepal Medical Association, doctors donned a black armband to show solidarity with Dr KC’s movement.
NMA’s central member Krishna Poudel said that the time has come for people from all walks of life to come together for saving Dr KC’s life.
Poudel said that they will be left with no option but to initiate protest if Dr KC’s demands were not addressed by Sunday.

Meanwhile, Doctors boycotted government desk of the District Hospital, Jajarkot, on Thursday.
They boycotted the government desk expressing solidarity with the demands of Dr Govinda KC who has been staging hunger strike for the past 18 days demanding reforms in country’s medical sector.
Doctors treated the patients in the courtyard of the hospital.
Saying that the government turned a blind eye to the demands of senior orthopaedic surgeon, doctors today treated the patients wearing blank armband, said hospital’s medical officer Dr Bhupendra Prakash Malla.
He warned that the hospital would close all its services if the government did not address the demands of Dr KC at the earliest.
