‘Nepali man arrested in Siliguri was there for mother’s treatment’

Fago, a permanent resident of Fikkal, Suryodaya Municipality of Ilam, was arrested from Siliguri-based Don Bosco School premises yesterday along with Nitin Chhetri, 35, of Sukuna, Siliguri in India. Chhetri is the secretary of Sukuna chapter of Bimal Gurung-led Gorkha Jana Mukti Morcha.
Both the arrestees have been charged with involvement in firing incident that took place after a weapon rally in Sukuna last week.
Fago's sister, Sadhana Fago, 37, said that her brother had gone to Siliguri for their mother's treatment and he has no connection to the Gorkhaland movement.
The West Bengal Police have said that Fago has been presented before the Siliguri Court and have been remanded to police custody for 12 days.
The accused have been charged under article 147, 148 and 149 of Indian penal code. They have been also accused of attacking policemen and creating obstruction on government services by wielding weapons.
