The government has decided to table the Health Insurance Bill at the Legislature-Parliament on Sunday.  The bill aims to bring all the citizens on board the government’s social health insurance programme.

Health Minister Giriraj Mani Pokharel said that the bill proposes forming a Health Insurance Board with the objective to provide quality health service to the people. The board will look after the policy issues and operation.

The health insurance scheme is being implemented in 15 districts as part of the social security programme through government decision. The Bill was brought to manage the programme.  Under the scheme, a family of five people can buy a yearly membership for Rs 2500 and the insured member could get insurance coverage for treatment up to Rs 50,000.
