A couple has committed suicide in Bardiya district on Thursday.

Satrudhan Tharu, 16, and Sarmila Chaudhary, 13, of Dhadhawar-7 in the district killed themselves by consuming poison.

According to SP Bharat Bahadur Bohara, the couple consumed poison after a controversy surrounded following Sarmila eloping with Satrudhan.

The duo died while undergoing treatment at the Kohalpur-based Nepal Medical College Teaching Hospital.

Police said that they are investigating into the case.
