General strike continues in Gulmi district for 12th day

Gulmi district remained shut for the 12th consecutive day on Sunday due to the protest against the constitution amendment bill that aims to split province no. 5. Normal life in the district continued to remain affected.
Protesters formed a one-Km long human chain today as a part of their protest against the bill.
The human chain stretched through Lakuri Manch, Chidichaur, Old Bank Road, buspark and Balmandir in the district. The human chain that began from 1pm circled district administration office, district development office, and district court, among other government offices.
Addressing a corner assembly after the protest, Nepali Congress district president and coordinator of the joint struggle committee Bhuwan Prasad Shrestha announced to continue the protest until government revokes its decision to split the province.
The joint struggle committee has organised a general assembly in the district on Monday to mark the 13th day of the protest. Senior leaders like Pradeep Gyawali from CPN-UML, Chandra Bhandari from NC, Top Bahadur Rayamajhi from CPN (Maoist Centre) are expected to address the assembly, according to Maoist Centre district in charge Bir Bahadur Karki.
Normal life has been crippled in the district due to the prolonged banda enforced by a joint struggle committee of various political parties. Vehicluar movement, businesses, market places have come to a grinding halt due to the strike.
