The health workers and locals donated blood to save the life of Dirgha Chadra, 30, of Atichaur VDC-8, Naina village who was reeling under a critical health condition due to excessive bleeding during delivery. 

Chadara was in trouble due to high labour pain on last Wednesday. As there is no health facility nearby home a mid-wife gave her a care for child delivery. 

She delivered her fifth child but underwent excessive bleeding for six days continuously when the placenta that needs to come out during delivery remained inside the womb. 

She got a new lease of life after she was taken to the Bajura District Health Office. Dr Rajan Neupane of Emergency Maternity Centre Bajura took the initiative to save her life by making necessary arrangement for blood fulfillment in her body. 

Likewise, the health workers and Nepal Army personnel had donated blood to Basanti Bista, 22, of Jagannath VDC-3, Malla Huniko and Sharada BK of Badimalika municipality-9 who were on labour pain to beget child since last week. 

Though there is no blood collection centre in the district the health workers and security personnel are doing great job to donate blood and give patients the new lease of life. It has also gradually inspired other people to organize blood donation programme to address acute crisis of blood in the district. 

The excessive bleeding is one of the major causes behind the death of pregnant women in Bajura every year. The statistics shows that four women had lost their lives because of bleeding in fiscal year 2069-70 while it was reduced to one in 2070-71. The death incidents recorded three this year. 

The statistics may not have included all death incidents caused by pregnancy complications, said Rugum Thapa of Statistics Section. 

He shared that the number of women delivering child at health facility in the district was 48 per cent in 2069-70 BS, 47 per cent in 2070-71 and 55 per cent this year. RSS
