Locals in Langtang, Rasuwa, are disappointed with government’s apathy towards reconstruction works in the region.
They expressed displeasure with the National Reconstruction Authority (NRA), stating that the authority did not pay heed to the reconstruction of this earthquake-ravaged tourist destination.
The Langtang folks have been enraged at NRA Chief Executive Sushil Gyawali for skipping Langtang Village even as he visited Kyanjin on Saturday.
“We heard that he came to the district but he did not come to our village. Although high-level NRA officials were in the district, they returned without visiting the villages that were devastated by last year’s earthquake,” said Suppa Tamang of Langtang.
The entire Langtang village was buried under the avalanche triggered by the Gorkha Earthquake. A total of 210 people had lost their lives in the tragedy. Fifty-three people are still missing in Langtang area. The locals also complained that the government aid was insufficient to carry out reconstruction works.
“All materials required to rebuild the houses have to be carried by porters,” said a quake displaced, adding that the government announced Rs200,000 is even insufficient to cover transportation costs.
