Nepali Congress (NC) senior leader Sher Bahadur Deuba has remarked that Far-West region would be kept intact during the demarcation of federal state boundaries and that people from Tharu and hill communities should coexist peacefully.
Speaking at a press conference organised by Nepal Press Union here in Dhangadi on Friday, leader Deuba said that exclusive rights could be granted to Tharu communities, minority groups, and indigenous people.
Earlier in the day, leader Deuba said that the Tharu dominated regions of Kailali and Kanchanpur could be granted autonomy. “We are ready to make the Tharu majority regions autonomous with special exclusive rights,” said Deuba, “For that, we can forge consensus with other political parties.”
He added that autonomy with special rights could be granted to the ethnic communities such as Tharu, Dagaura, and Rana who have been lagging behind in education and employment opportunities. “Hill origin leaders should take the initiatives to try and forge consensus with the Tharu leaders,” said leader Deuba.
He went on to claim that the current constitution is one of the best in Asia.
