The Ministry of Labour and Employment is preparing to appoint Joint-secretary Krishna Hari Pushkar as the new head of the Department of Foreign Employment (DoFE).
Sources said the ministry has decided to appoint Pushkar to the job following the complaints about ‘sluggish service and corruption’ in the DoFE under the incumbent Director General Rabindra Mohan Bhattarai.
It has been only four months since Bhattarai joined the department.
Ministry Secretary Suresh Man Shrestha said they are working to depute Pushkar to the DoFE. He, however, did not confirm whether the ministry has dispatched the letter to Pushkar in this regard.
Meanwhile, Pushkar said he would take ‘zero tolerance’ approach against the culture of corruption that is thriving in the department. Pushkar would be the third person to take the helm of the arguably ‘one of the most corrupt frontline office’ in a year.
The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority had booked nearly three dozen DoFE staffers in August, 2013, for sending people abroad illegally. Around 30 officials are still being probed. Around 2,000 service seekers visit the DoFE every day.
