The Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) recorded a strong upswing on Sunday, the first trading day of the week, with the benchmark index jumping by 47.55 points compared with Thursday.
The 1.83 percent rise pushed the index to 2,633.42 points, marking a return above the 2,600-point threshold after four trading sessions.
The market had slipped to 2,595.10 points last Sunday following a 19.92-point drop. Although the two most recent sessions before Sunday had posted marginal gains, they were not sufficient to lift the benchmark past the psychological barrier until the latest jump.
Market breadth was firmly positive. Share prices of 238 listed companies advanced, while only 21 declined. All 13 sectoral sub-indices closed higher, with non-life insurance, manufacturing and processing, and hotels and tourism registering the strongest gains.
Investor participation was also higher. A total of 89,251 transactions were executed, involving the trade of 13,468,145 shares. The day’s turnover reached Rs5.53 billion—significantly above Thursday’s Rs3.22 billion.
