Jan Kath Rug + Art Space Kathmandu, a premium display centre, came into operation on Wednesday.
Promoted by Jan Kath Pvt Ltd, a European-based design company, the display centre aims to promote Nepali arts, culture, skills and craftsmanship associated with Nepal’s carpet products and promote the experience of the Himalayan Art of Carpet weaving.
Jan Kath Design has been in carpet production for the last two and a half decades and exports its products to as many as 52 countries, especially in Europe and America.
“Nepal has traditionally been involved in the production and export of carpet products,” says Hem Lama, Director of Jan Kath Rug + Art Space Kathmandu, “Sadly, so far we have treated carpet as a mere product and have not been able to recognise the arts, culture, tradition and essence associated with it.”
