Police on Thursday arrested a 24-year-old man on charge of raping a 14-year-old girl in Salyan district.

Kupinnde Municipality-1 local Bir Bahadur Dangi, who had been on the run, was taken into police custody for allegedly committing the crime on May 2. The accused had allegedly lured the victim by telling her that he had brought her a gift, said Police Inspector Bhawani Prasad Dhamala.

Dangi then raped the victim in a jungle and threatened to kill her if she told anyone about the crime.

The accused was arrested after the relatives of the victim filed a police case at the local police office.

The district court extended the judicial custody of Dangi for further investigation.
