A newborn was found dead in Salyan on Wednesday.

The body of the deceased was found floating in the Sharada River in Dodhera of Kalimati Rural Municipality.

The body was found with the umbilical cord still attached, said Santosh Khanal, information officer at the district police office.

Khanal added that the body had been taken to the district hospital for a postmortem.

Police personnel from the Kalimati Area Police Office and Luham reached the incident site for further investigation after local ward chairman Bel Bahadur Chand informed them of the incident, Khanal said.
