Nepal reports 10,258 cases as rapid antigen tests added to daily infection tallies
According to the Health Ministry, the countrywide death toll has now reached 11,624 and the number of active cases stands at 39,044.Post Report
Nepal on Tuesday reported 8,730 new PCR confirmed coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours taking the nationwide infection tally to 868,215.
Similarly, 1,528 people tested positive in a total of 4,956 antigen tests, according to the Health Ministry.
As of Tuesday, 5,036,120 PCR and 896,002 antigen tests have been carried out across the country.
A total of 17,872 PCR tests were performed in the past 24 hours, according to the Health Ministry.
In its regular situation report, the ministry did not mention the death toll over the past 24 hours. It, however, reported one Covid-19-related fatality.
The countrywide death toll has now reached 11,624. The number of active cases stands at 39,044 and the rate of infection positivity is 48.84 percent.
According to the World Health Organization, if the positivity rate, or the number of tests that return positive for every 100 tests, is more than 5 percent, the pandemic is supposed to be beyond control.
According to the ministry, 817,547 infected people have recovered from the disease so far; 562 of them in the last 24 hours.
Nepal, on January 7, had reported 24 new Omicron cases. Earlier in December, three Omicron cases were confirmed.
The Health Ministry said tests conducted on 250 samples from among the 1,146 infected in the Nepali month of Poush had shown S-gene dropouts. Gene-sequencing performed on 24 samples returned Omicron results in all of them.
Kathmandu Valley recorded 5,549 new infections in the past 24 hours. Of these, 4,004 cases were confirmed in Kathmandu, 975 in Lalitpur and 570 in Bhaktapur.
In the past 24 hours, 1,072 new infections were recorded in Province 1, 265 in Madhes Pradesh, 6,162 in Bagmati, 514 in Gandaki, 371 in Lumbini, 53 in Karnali and 273 in Sudurpaschim.
On Tuesday, 151 individuals infected with the virus were being treated in intensive care units across the country. Another 28—eight in Province 1, 18 in Bagmati and two in Sudurpaschim—were on ventilator support.
Nepal on Monday reported 5,747 new PCR confirmed coronavirus cases and three deaths. Similarly, 4,961 new PCR confirmed coronavirus cases and three deaths were recorded on Sunday and 3,703 new PCR confirmed coronavirus cases and four deaths were reported on Saturday.
