Nepal’s Covid-19 toll reaches 528 with eight more deaths; 2,120 new infections take national tally to 84,570
Kathmandu Valley reported 1,177 new infections, with 1,001 cases in Kathmandu, 109 in Lalitpur and 67 in Bhaktapur, according to the Health Ministry.Post Report
Nepal on Saturday reported 2,120 new Covid-19 cases as the national tally reached 84,570. The country also reported eight deaths, pushing the coronavirus death toll to 528.
Six men and two women died of Covid-19 in the past 24 hours, according to the Health Ministry.
Two women, aged 28 and 76, were from Sunsari and Chitwan respectively. While, two men, aged 83 and 68 from Kathmandu died of Covid-19 in the past 24 hours. Likewise, a 67-year-old from Lalitpur, a 41-year-old from Sindhupalchok, a 65-year-old from Dolakha and 79-year-old from Kailali also succumbed to the disease.
So far, 62,740 individuals have made successful recovery—2,044 of them in the past 24 hours. As of Saturday, there are 21,302 active cases.
According to the ministry, the Kathmandu Valley recorded 1,177 new infections. Of them, 1,001 were confirmed in Kathmandu, 109 in Lalitpur and 67 in Bhaktapur.
As of Saturday, the number of cases in the Valley has reached 27,918. A total of 25,420 cases have been detected after the three district administration offices in Kathmandu Valley imposed prohibitory orders starting August 19 midnight.
The country has seen 66,576 infections and 488 deaths since July 22. There were 17,994 cases and 40 Covid-19-related deaths until July 21, when the government decided to end the nationwide lockdown after four months.
According to the ministry, 204 individuals from Bagmati Province, 131 from Province 2, 86 from Province 5, 61 from Province 1, 26 from Gandaki Province, 14 from Sudurpaschim Province, and six from Karnali Province have died of Covid-19 so far.
As of Saturday, the 1,061,664 PCR tests have been carried out across the country.
“A total of 12,978 PCR tests were performed in the past 24 hours,” Dr Jageshwar Gautam, spokesperson for the ministry, said during a regular press briefing.
In the past 24 hours, 1,001 individuals from Kathmandu, 122 from Sunsari, 111 from Morang, 109 from Lalitpur, 98 from Rupandehi, 93 from Kailali, 82 from Rautahat, 75 from Chitwan, 67 from Bhaktapur, 43 from Surkhet, 25 from Bara, 22 from Kaski, 19 each from Saptari and Banke, 18 from Parsa, 14 from Kavrepalanchok, 12 from Makwanpur, 10 each from Tanahun and Bardiya, tested positive for the coronavirus infection.
Infections were also recorded in nine people each in Jhapa and Dailekh, eight each in Siraha, Dhading, Nuwakot and Nawalparasi (East), seven each in Udayapur and Palpa, six each in Ramechhap, Sindhuli, Gorkha, Kapilvastu, Nawalparasi (West) and Pyuthan, five each in Khotang, Mahottari, Sarlahi and Kanchanpur, four each in Okhaldhunga, Dolakha and Dang districts.
Likewise, three persons each in Sankhuwasabha and Lamjung, two each in Sindhupalchok, Syangja, Arghakhanchi, Gulmi and Dadeldhura and one each in Dhankuta, Parbat, Myagdi, Baglung, Rolpa, Kalikot, Darchula, Bajhang and Bajura, also tested positive for the virus.
“Seven districts—Morang, Siraha, Kathmandu, Bhaktapur, Lalitpur, Chitwan and Rupandehi—have more than 500 active cases,” Gautam said. “Three districts—Manang, Mustang and Dolpa—don’t have any active cases.”
“As of Saturday, 217 Covid-19 patients are being treated in intensive care units across the country and 31 patients—24 in Bagmati, four in Province 5, two in Province 1 and one in Province 2—are on ventilator support.”
Nepal on Friday reported a record 2,722 new Covid-19 cases, highest single daily spike, and 11 deaths. On Thursday, the country had reported 1,911 new cases and 11 Covid-19-related deaths compared to 1,559 new infections and seven deaths on Wednesday and 1,513 new infections and 10 deaths on Tuesday.
