Nepal’s Covid-19 tally reaches 77,817 with 1,559 new infections; seven more fatalities take the death toll to 498
The active case count stands at 20,891 with 56,428 individuals discharged after successful recovery, according to the Health Ministry.Post Report
Nepal on Wednesday recorded 1,559 new cases taking the national Covid-19 tally to 77,817. The country also reported seven Covid-19-related fatalities in the past 24 hours as the coronavirus death toll reached 498.
Five men and two women died of Covid-19 in the past 24 hours, according to the Health Ministry.
Among the deceased, two women aged 34 and 86 years and a 54-year-old man were from Kathmandu while four other men aged 60, 60, 39 and 82 years were from Sunsari, Morang, Saptari and Rupandehi districts respectively.
So far, 56,428 individuals have made successful recovery—1057 of them in the past 24 hours. As of Wednesday, there are 20,891 active cases.
According to the Ministry of Health and Population, the Kathmandu Valley recorded 902 new infections in the past 24 hours. Of them, 697 were confirmed in Kathmandu, 112 in Lalitpur and 93 in Bhaktapur.
As of Wednesday, the number of cases in the Valley has reached 24,160. A total of 21,662 cases have been detected after the three district administration offices in Kathmandu Valley imposed prohibitory orders starting August 19 midnight.
The country has seen 59,823 infections and 458 deaths since July 22. There were 17,994 cases and 40 Covid-19-related deaths until July 21, when the government decided to end the nationwide lockdown after four months.1
According to the ministry, 188 individuals from Bagmati Province, 131 from Province 2, 79 from Province 5, 56 from Province 1, 26 from Gandaki Province, 13 from Sudurpaschim Province, and five from Karnali Province have died of Covid-19 so far.
As of Wednesday, the 1,021,503 PCR tests have been carried out across the country.
“A total of 12,205 PCR tests were performed in the past 24 hours,” Dr Jageshwar Gautam, spokesperson for the ministry, said during a regular press briefing.
In the past 24 hours, 697 individuals from Kathmandu, 112 in Lalitpur, 98 in Morang, 93 in Bhaktapur, 70 in Rupandehi, 62 in Chitwan, 45 in Nawalparasi (East), 41 in Surkhet, 38 each in Sunsari and Makwanpur, 27 in Banke, 23 in Kailali, 19 in Jhapa, 17 in Parsa, 16 in Kaski, 15 in Gorkha, 11 in Mahottari, and 10 each in Bara and Bardiya, tested positive for the coronavirus infection.
Infections were also recorded in nine people in Kavre, eight each in Dhading and Doti, seven in Saptari, six each in Sindhupalchok, Palpa, and Kanchanpur, and five each in Tanahun, Dang and Dailekh, and four in Kalikot.
Likewise, three persons each in Dolakha, Nuwakot, Sindhuli, Syangja and Pyuthan, two each Sarlahi, Siraha, Ramechhap, Lamjung, Baglung, Kapilvastu, Rolpa, Jumla, Humla, Achham and Dadeldhura, and one each in Udayapur, Taplejung, Bhojpur, Sankhuwasabha, Dhanusha, Parbat, Myagdi, Gulmi, Nawalparasi (West), Salyan and Bajhang also tested positive for the virus.
“Eight districts—Morang, Sunsari, Siraha, Kathmandu, Bhaktapur, Lalitpur, Chitwan and Rupandehi—have more than 500 active cases,” Gautam said. “Four districts—Manang, Mustang, Dolpa, Mugu and—don’t have any active cases.”
“As of Wednesday, 201 Covid-19 patients are being treated in intensive care units across the country and 30 patients—23 in Bagmati, five in Province 1, and two in Province 5—are on ventilator support.”
Nepal on Tuesday reported 1,513 new infections and 10 Covid-19-related deaths compared to 1,351 new cases and four deaths on Monday and 1,573 new cases and 10 fatalities on Sunday.
