Nepal reports most single-day Covid-19 deaths to take toll to 137
With 838 new infections, the national tally reaches 30,483, according to the Health Ministry.Post Report
Nepal on Friday reported 11 more Covid-19-related deaths, highest in a single day, taking the fatalities to 137. Meanwhile, with 838 new infections in the last 24 hours, the national tally has reached 30,483.
The Health Ministry said that 11 people—ten men and a woman from Morang, Parsa, Bara, Saptari, Sarlahi, Kathmandu, Lalitpur, Chitwan, Makwanpur, Dolakha and Pyuthan districts—succumbed to the disease.
According to the ministry, 57 individuals from Province 2, 29 from Bagmati Province, 17 from Province 5, 14 from Province 1, eight each from Sudurpaschim and Gandaki Province and four from Karnali Province have died from Covid-19-related conditions so far.
"A total of 13,679 polymerase chain reaction (PCR) tests were carried out in the past 24 hours," said Health Ministry spokesperson Dr Jageshwar Gautam, during a regular press briefing. So far, 579,899 PCR tests have been performed in the country.
Samples of 142 individuals from Kathmandu, 85 from Kailali, 80 from Parsa, 53 from Jumla, 45 from Morang, 40 from Bara, 38 from Achham, 34 from Doti, 32 from Makwanpur, 29 from Sunsari, 25 from Lalitpur, 24 from Sarlahi, 23 from Chitwan, 20 from Banke, 19 from Nawalparasi (East), 17 from Rupandehi, 16 from Siraha, 15 from Bhaktapur, 14 from Kanchanpur, 11 from Rautahat, eight from Sindhuli, seven from Jhapa, six each from from Bardiya and Pyuthan, five from Saptari, four each from Ilam and Dang, three each from Dhanusha, Baglung, Rukum (West) and Baitadi, two each from Udayapur, Nuwakot, Manang, Kapilvastu and Dadheldhura, and one each from Panchthar, Taplejung, Dhading, Dolakha, Rasuwa, Gorkha, Parbat, Syangja, Argakhanchi, Gulmi, Palpa, Rolpa, Dailekh and Kalikot tested positive for the coronavirus.
So far, 18,214 individuals have made successful recoveries after being diagnosed with Covid-19. According to the ministry, 250 Covid patients were discharged from various hospitals in the last 24 hours. There are 12,132 active infections in the country.
“One hundred and thirty-three patients are undergoing treatment at intensive care units in various hospitals across the country while 15 patients in Bagmati Province are being treated with ventilator support,” said Gautam.
Four districts—Bhojpur, Mustang, Myagdi and Humla—don’t have any active cases, according to the ministry.
Nepal had reported six Covid-19-related deaths and 707 new cases on Thursday, compared to six covid-19-related deaths and 681 new cases on Wednesday and 1,016 new infections and six deaths on Tuesday. The country recorded three Covid-19-related deaths and 581 new infections on Monday. On Sunday, there were two Covid-19-related deaths and 641 new infections. Saturday saw 468 new infections and three Covid-19-related deaths.
