Himalayan Sherpa extend sponsorship deal with Yeti Airlines
The club get Rs2 million from the carrier as title sponsor.Sports Bureau
First division league outfit Himalayan Sherpa Club have extended their sponsorship deal with Yeti Airlines for the third year in Kathmandu.
Himalayan Sherpa Club President Karma Tsering Sherpa, who is also the president of the All Nepal Football Association, and Yeti Airlines Sales and Marketing Director Saral SJB Rana signed the memorandum of understanding (MoU) to that effect at a function on Monday
Under the deal, Himalayan Sherpa will be named Yeti Himalayan Sherpa Club for which the carrier will pay the club Rs2 million.
"We gave continuity to the old agreement with the Airlines as everything had to be sorted out at a very short period. I am thankful to the Airlines for their continuous support to the club," said Sherpa, adding that the sponsorship amount would increase next year.
According to club President Sherpa, the late managing director of the Airlines Ang Tshering Sherpa and he had planned to take the club to new heights. "Unfortunately, those plans could not materialise," said Sherpa. "Now, we are planning to take the club into a Pvt Ltd set-up with a view to fulfil the AFC club licensing requirements."
Airlines’ Senior Manager Bhim Raj Rai said they had extended sponsorship to the club as part of its corporate social responsibility. "Our late managing director always wanted to support the sports sector. We will continue our support to the club in the future," said Rai.
Speaking on the occasion, club's newly appointed coach Sanjib Budathoki said they had set the target of finishing inside the top four in the league. "As well as retaining most of the players from last season, we have also made sound preparations for the competition," said the coach of the Himalayan who finished seventh in the 14-club league competition last season.
The team had undergone a two-month closed session training in Pokhara in preparation for the league, the club president said, adding that the team are currently training in Dhulikhel. "Due to the shortage of quality training ground in Kathmandu, we have set our camp in Dhulikhel," said Sherpa, adding that the club’s estimated budget for this season would range anywhere between Rs8-9 million.
The Himalayan will play Nepal Police Club on Tuesday in their opening match of the Martyrs Memorial 'A' Division League.
