Book on Tharu culture published
A Dang-based Tharu organisation has published ‘Tharu Sanskritik Darpan’ in an effort to conserve the traditional cultural aspects of the community.Post Report
The Satgaowa Tharu Samaj Sangh, based in Deukhuri of Dang district, has published a book titled “Tharu Sanskritik Darpan”.
In a press statement, the Sangh said the book aims to help conserve the indigenous Tharu culture through documentation of the socio-cultural aspect that makes for the fabric of the native community.
The book is also an effort to bring to light several traditional and cultural aspects of the Tharu community, according to Khadga Bahadur Chaudhary, chair of Satgaowa Tharu Samaj Sangh.
“The book will help in preserving the history and identity of the Tharu community while also acting as a reference material for students and researchers who wish to study the culture of the Tharu people,” reads the statement.
The Sangh said that the book is integrated documentation of the Tharu culture and traditions in written form.
Tharus are an indigenous ethnic group of Nepal and as per National Population and Housing Census 2011 they make up 6.6 percent of the total population.
