A discussion on the poetry collection Poetic Diaspora, written by poet Anusha Sharma Subedi, was held during a special programme in Hattiban, Lalitpur. The collection was critically reviewed at the event.
Professor Arun Gupto, the chief guest, said the poems are deeply thoughtful. He noted that all 130 English-language poems are powerful, highlighting the poet’s ability to capture themes, work with language, and use vivid imagination.
Poet and critic Keshav Sigdel described the collection as having a high literary standard. “Each word carries profound meaning, delicately woven into a refined structure. The rhythmic style draws the reader in. The poems flow with a devotional undercurrent, while also reflecting a clear sense of inner freedom,” he said.
Critic Mahesh Paudel said the poems reflect a mature vision of life and the world. He added that they carry a meditative quality and also show elements of child psychology.
Poet Sarala KC said the collection has a strong emotional appeal. “Reading her work feels like sitting in cool shade. There is power in the words and depth in the feeling. The poems can emotionally engage the reader,” she said.
Poet and writer Rajiv Shrestha said he found a strong sense of lived experience in the poems. “Her poems feel like reflections from her own life. Having worked closely with her, I know she is deeply spiritual and finds joy in devotion to Lord Shiva. That essence is clearly present in her poetry,” he said.
During the programme, journalist and writer Deepak Sapkota recited selected poems from the collection. Journalist and literary figure Raj Sargam moderated the session and engaged the poet in a discussion about her work.
Speaking at the event, Anusha said poetry has been her medium for expressing what she could not otherwise articulate. “I have captured the emotions of being away from my family for various reasons. These poems express feelings I could not say directly. My family has been a strong support in bringing this collection to publication,” she said.
She also spoke about her love for nature and her devotion to Lord Shiva. The programme opened with a welcome address by writer and children’s lyricist Rambabu Subedi.
