On the first Saturday of every month, the Yellow House collaborates with Image Ark to organise an Art Market in Sanepa. This event is a platform for emerging, young artists to unite and market their work. This fresh event has been taking place for over a year in Lalitpur, and has also started in Pokhara, but instead of every first Saturday of the month, it takes place every last Saturday there. The stalls with jewellery, clothes, stationery, paintings, postcards, hammocks, design creations, etc were also accompanied by the Yellow House restaurant for hungry customers. Peaceful and subtly humourous live music was played by art enthusiast Mark Harris, with an open mic session. Puur Nepal, Bhav Products, The Cashmere Outlet, Tissah were among the 20 stalls present.
“Many uprising artists don’t know where to exhibit their work, so this market’s objective is to provide a platform to showcase and test their art,” Haitian founder of Image Ark, Marie Ange Sylvain said. Many vendors here are regulars and have stated that they have become some sort of a family, like Dutch Anouk Tamrakar of Puur Nepal said, “It is a great getaway and a nice place to hangout due to the amazing ambience. You engage with many fascinating people who are interested in the same things as you are.” The best part about this market was that most of the creative products found here were all manufactured in Nepal itself. “The Art Market is a wonderful representation of the creative products made here in Nepal. It comes as a surprise to stereotypes who believe that fine products are only made internationally,” said vendor Bhintuna Jya Poo.
The Art Market is not only a great place to shop, but a great place to interact with people from around the world. If you’re looking for an artsy place to discover and be inspired by unique pieces of craft, with delicious paninis and momos, the Art Market is the place to be, with free entry!
