Flag on his shoulder, stories in his songs
Nepathya’s frontman, Amrit Gurung, led an emotional performance in Boston, weaving nostalgia and national pride.
Post Report
Nepathya performed at Boston’s Royal Boston Hall after seven years, as part of their ongoing US tour.
During the show, a fan threw a Nepali flag onto the stage. Lead singer Amrit Gurung respectfully draped it over his shoulders, saying, “Let us always treat our red flag with the moon and sun with honour.”
The Boston performance was Nepathya’s sixth stop in a seven-city tour that began a month ago in Austin, Texas.
Attendees included young Nepali students and elderly community members. An American fan who drove four and a half hours from Vermont was touched by the performance. “I wish I had learned Nepali to sing with my wife,” he said.
The show featured some of Nepathya’s biggest hits, such as ‘Koshiko Pani’, ‘Resham’, ‘Tal ko Pani’, and ‘Gaun Gaun Bata Utha’. Gurung also performed their new song ‘Karnalika Chhaila’, and spoke about Nepal's beauty and unity.
As always, Gurung tried to connect the audience with Nepal and Nepali identity during the concert. He also emphasised themes of social awareness and humanity throughout the performance.
The tour’s final stop will be in Greensboro, North Carolina, marking Nepathya’s debut in the city. After the performance, the 14-member team will return to Nepal.
