Translations and linguistic accessibility
As a language nerd, I love it when the resources posted on digital spaces are as multilingual as possible. For me, languages are more than a medium of communication; they reflect accessibility, power dynamics and one’s heritage and roots. There are many languages in Nepal that are not translated or represented in digital spaces due to technical limitations and a lack of standardisation.
That’s when AI comes to help. I use AI models to translate and learn such languages. Recently, while working on a project that required translating into over 100 languages in Nepal, I used AI to translate into at least 10 languages whose speakers were hard to find. AI models provide decent translations and relevant scripts, enabling resources to reach a larger audience.
Academics and daily college assignments
College assignments get boring, especially when you are studying a theoretical course. Like most teens and young adults, I use AI tools to help me with my assignments and refine my writing. AI tools like summarizers, paraphrasers, and note-makers not only assist me with my assignments but also save me from last-minute hassle at the deadline. However, it is necessary to acknowledge that AI use can sometimes be unethical in academia, and students must be careful when using it, especially in creative and research-oriented work.
Social media strategy and content brainstorming
My work involves spending a lot of time on social media, where I have to research content, plan and design it, post across different platforms, and constantly check their status. This process is time-consuming, and sometimes I miss a step or two along the way. I use AI tools to help me brainstorm content and strategise social media posts. AI tools answer questions like what content would get higher reach, what type of audience I am trying to attract, what timing is appropriate for posting, etc., which has streamlined the entire process for me.
AI as an intergenerational assistant tool
As they say, “When in Rome, do as Romans do,” the use of AI is not limited to only kids or me of my generation in my family. My parents and other elder members are equally intrigued by AI, and they often ask us kids about its usage. The use of AI has made my family members’ lives easier.
Even though digital literacy might be an issue for them, they have learned to navigate AI nonetheless. I also use AI tools for my day-to-day activities, such as organising things, scheduling events, writing emails and letters more professionally, and tracking my progress at work.
