‘Living Heritage’ brings art and theatre together
A collaborative exhibition at The Nanee showcases Paubha paintings and a live theatre performance rooted in the cultural traditions of the Kathmandu Valley.Post Report
A collaborative traditional art exhibition, ‘Living Heritage’, is taking place at The Nanee, in partnership with Gallery Mcube, from February 6 to 18.
This exhibit presents a diverse expression of Nepali art, featuring Paubha painting, woodwork, and repoussé art, alongside a theatre performance by artists from Sarwanam Theatre.
‘Living Heritage’ showcases art that emerges from the intersection of religion and everyday life. At the exhibition’s opening, a curatorial tour will be held to discuss the works, followed by a theatre performance.
Devendra Sinkhwal, Indra Prasad Shilpakar, Rajani Sinkhwal, Rajesh Shakya, and Ujay Bajracharya are the multidisciplinary artists behind this art exhibition.
Ashesh Malla, Pramila Karki Upreti, Rimmon Manandhar, Sangita Gopali, Subash Shrestha Pradhan and Videha Bhusal are performing a theatre act. Their works are part of the artistic traditions and culture that depict the historical rituals and beliefs of the Kathmandu Valley.
“By bringing traditional artistic practices into the present, the exhibition shows that heritage is alive and able to speak across cultures while remaining connected to place, community, and lived experience,” says Manish Lal Shrestha, the curator of ‘Living Heritage’.
